Veolia Water and Orange are joining forces in the smart metering sector and are launching m2o city, an operator specialized in remote environmental data and water meter reading services.
The m2o cityjoint-venture offers as of today a complete turnkey service based on an ultralow consumption radio network to local authorities. In addition to information from water meters, this network will be able to collect data from environmental sensors (to combat noise or pollution for instance) in line with the expectations of any authorities.

In partnership with Orange, Intratone, expert in building access control and wireless telephone intercom, creates intercom panels working on GSM network for collective housing. Thanks to the SIM card installed in the entry phones, the visitors can call directly the residents on their mobile or fixed line which allows them to open by clicking on the star key of the telephone. Therefore the residents monitor remotely their building access. The installation costs are reduced because no additional work is necessary. Thanks to this solution, Intratone improves its secure building access control services and can extend its offer to the international market.
Vivek Badrinath, Executive Director of Orange Business Services, talks about his vision and that of the group on M2M and the Internet of Things. He tells us that the Orange group is already strongily committed to several years in the Machine To Machine, which is a great tool to develop innovative services, with over 2 million M2M SIM cards worldwide through the Orange Group. He gives details of the many areas that are already impacted by M2M: transportation, health, remote metering, security, ... He announces that the Group's objective is to reach 10 million communicating objects in 2015 and that for this, Orange Business Services will work with partners: integrators, major players in their industry, electronics manufacturers, ... He expresses the will of the group to move forward together with these partners through open innovation and co-development and establish with them technical and commercial partnerships.
Cover box, the unique Pay As You Drive car insurance company in the UK has chosen Orange to develop its m2m based solution. Insurance costs are based on the drivers' driving patterns. An m2m SIM card is installed in the car which monitors driving patterns: how many miles people drive, when they drive and how they drive. This solution allows drivers to consult on internet their driving pattern and adapt it accordingly to reduce their bills.
EMT Malaga, the public transport company of the city of Malaga, has developed with Orange Spain a fleet management solution to geolocalize its buses using an embedded m2m SIM card. Via GPRS technology, it communicates through a web interface to a display at the bus stop the estimate arrival time of the buses. It also provides real time information to the control centre of EMT on bus status, geographic position and in case of a problem allows calls to be made to the bus driver . Thanks to this solution, EMT improved its quality of service and its customer experience.
Konica Minolta has developed with Orange a solution enabling the automated monitoring of printing systems from a device and a SIM card. This solution enables the optimisation of equipment maintenance, remote check-ups of the printers, automated deliveries of consumable supplies and remote reading of copy meters. Konica Minolta can thus provide its customers with a reactive and top quality service so they can rely on a fully functional printing system

March 18, 2009, Sorin Group, a global medical device company and leader in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, has developed a remote monitoring solution for patients implanted with cardiac rhythm management (CRM) devices in partnership with Orange Business Services. The new solution is based on Sorin's implanted CRM devices' ability to send data to a non-invasive monitoring system located at the patient's home and on Orange Business Services' capability to manage the data transmission to the physician. During the World Communication Awards 2009, this collaborative solution received the "Best Change-Maker" award.
